Meet Chi, #r-asia Channel Lead on Hive Slack

Chi Szuching leads our #r-asia channel on Hive Slack — a space where advocates from across Asia connect, collaborate, and exchange ideas about farmed animal advocacy in the region.

Drawing on her experience in animal rights, digital storytelling, and community-building, Chi brings creativity, cross-cultural perspective, and warmth to everything she does.

To us at Hive, Chi is a generous channel lead and a thoughtful presence, helping to build bridges across cultures.

Behind the Channel with Chi Szuching

Hive’s Community Coordinator, Nazlı, asked Chi a few questions about her journey and what drives her leadership.

Nazlı: Can you tell us a bit about your background and the work you do — whether in advocacy, your profession, or elsewhere?

Chi: I’m a vegan advocate and content creator with experience in animal rights, digital storytelling, and campaign coordination. Currently, I work with Asia for Animals as a SMACC Coordinator. My past work at PETA Asia involved coordinating over 50 celebrity campaigns across Greater China to promote animal advocacy. I’m passionate about cross-cultural communication and using creative ways to inspire compassion and systemic change.

Nazlı: Where are you currently based?

Chi: I’m based in Taiwan!

Nazlı: What inspired you to lead this Slack channel, and why does this topic matter to you personally?

Chi: I lead this channel, because I believe in the power of community and unity to create real impact for animals. Honestly, it was Kevin Xia’s invitation that gave me the nudge! I couldn’t say no to the chance to build something meaningful together.

Nazlı: What’s something that helps you stay grounded or inspired in your advocacy work?

Chi: For me, the most important thing is practicing self-care, so that my commitment to the movement is sustainable in the long run.

We’re constantly bombarded with strategies, theories of change, MEL frameworks, new tech, AI, and more. Especially in spaces such as the Hive Slack resources are abundant and often intense.

That’s why I think it’s important to pause, breathe, and remind ourselves that the community will still be here, supporting us, guiding us, walking alongside us in this fight.

Nazlı: What do you enjoy outside of your farmed animal advocacy work?

Chi: I love learning and reading!

Nazlı: Are there any readings that you can share with us, that have perhaps inspired you lately?

Chi: Yes! The books currently next to me are The Cat Who Taught Zen by James Norbury, One Hundred Years of Solitude (in Spanish! I’m finally brave enough to try that), and The 38 Letters from J.D. Rockefeller to His Son (in Chinese!).

Thank you, Chi!

Chi’s leadership reminds us that building community is both a collective effort and a personal practice. Through the #r-asia channel, she’s helping advocates connect across borders, languages, and experiences, nurturing the sense of unity that keeps our global movement strong.
