Sofia Balderson (Executive Director)
Sofia started Hive in 2022 to combat isolation in the advocacy community and improve access to resources for impactful work. Before Hive, she contributed to the success of Animal Advocacy Careers and Veganuary. She can advise on how project leads can best navigate the movement landscape, unblock next steps, and build momentum.

Kevin Xia (Managing Director)
Kevin joined Hive as Generalist in 2024 and started as Managing Director in 2025. Previously, he started an effective animal advocacy group in Austria where he has also supported the Effective Altruism community as a board member between 2023 and 2025. Kevin can help connect you with experts across various domains of your project, discuss big picture movement needs and strategy, and provide input on your theory of change.

Angel Lau (Asia-focused support)
Angel brings diverse expertise, including co-founding Animal Alliance Asia, driving communications for various organizations, and community building in Asia. As our Asia ambassador, she continues to use her deep expertise and can help with movement context and connections for Asia-based advocates and projects.

Alexia (LATAM-focused support)
In addition to her role as LatAm Ambassador, Alexia also works at LATAM Group for Animals and led fundraising efforts at Animal Libre, an animal rights organization working across Chile and Argentina. She also has experience in community organizing and the tech sector and can provide movement context and connections for Latin America-based advocates and projects.

Depending on capacity and fit, your call may involve one adviser or include follow-up support from another team member.

  • Yes. The consult call is free thanks to our funders and community members who support our work.

  • No. We support both early-stage and active projects.

  • Hive is not a funder, and we can’t promise introductions or outcomes. We can help you navigate options and strengthen your next steps.

  • No. We don’t run a formal incubation program or provide fiscal sponsorship. We offer a free consult call and can suggest relevant incubators, fiscal sponsors, and movement resources depending on your needs.

  • Projects aimed at helping farmed animals through advocacy, research, organising, coalition-building, field-building, or other high-leverage paths.

  • We aim to respond within 5 business days. If we can’t offer a call, we may suggest other resources depending on capacity.
